The FA: ORIGINS

Are you passionate about football and the spirit it creates in your community?

We are teaming up with The FA to find football fans across England to share stories of their football communities. Their stories will be shaped by the places they grew up, the pitches they played on, and the communities that raised them.

Through video, photography, and written word, you will share what football means to your community, how it shapes local culture, and the traditions and memories that make the game special where you live.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for people who can share the story of their community through football. We want to learn about the important places - the streets, pitches, and local rituals that make your area unique, and how football connects to everyday life.

Whether your story begins in a small coastal village, a Midlands town, or the English countryside, we want to hear what makes your community special, and how football fits into it.

What do you have to do if you are selected to become a storyteller?

If shortlisted, you will be asked to share photos of places that are important in your local town, along with a short video introducing your community football story.

If selected, you will be tasked with documenting your local football culture through:

  • Photography (analogue and digital)

  • Short video clips capturing moments, people, or places that define your community

  • Written story about your football life and community

You will be guided by Goal Click every step of the way!

Storytellers will be notified of selection by the end of April.

What do you receive if you are selected?

You will be rewarded for your participation in the project with tickets to an England game for you and your club.

Are there any requirements you must meet to apply?

  • You must be 18+ years of age.

  • You must be involved within your grassroots football community.

  • You must be based in England.

  • You must be comfortable capturing content on your own phone and the analogue camera provided to you.

  • You must be comfortable with your story being shared on public channels, including The FA’s England Football channels and Goal Click.
