Ecstasy And Agony

Gabe Cuthbert, London, England

As part of Goal Click London, in partnership with adidas, Gabe Cuthbert from Art of Football took photos at the FA Cup Final and of local grassroots football in south London.

The first picture was taken of Palace fans leaving Wembley after their excruciating extra time defeat in the FA Cup Final. There's two emotions that really define our lives as football fans: ecstasy and agony - for every winner there is a loser. These fans are all suffering, but they are suffering together and as I'm sure the older gentleman will explain to his grandson on the journey home, there will be plenty of good times to come.

The second photo was taken of a 5 aside court in the park outside my house in New Cross, I walk past it every day, and every day the same group of kids are playing football right through until they can barely see the ball anymore. I took the photo firstly because this was pretty much all my childhood consisted of, scabby knees, grasstains, football, football and more football. You are never far from a little pitch like this one in South London, and many of them have been and will be home to some of English football's best players.

London

Goal Click London, in partnership with adidas, told the story of London football culture from the perspective of local players, photographers, fans, and community organisations.
